Today, my maternal grandparents' wedding anniversary, reminds me that love is worth celebrating. At the time of my grandfather's death, they were married for over 55 years. I often marveled at how my grandparents stayed together for so many years with so much love for one another when most people I know have difficulty remaining that committed to the person they vowed to love and care for or even being committed to themselves. Watching how my grandfather treated my grandmother with the utmost love, respect, protection, and provision gave me hope then and gives me hope now that love is worth it and it is possible to have a marriage that lasts. Watching how my grandmother cared for my grandfather when he became ill, with unconditional love, concern for his health, and respect for his dignity and worth as a man gives me continued hope that love is possible and reachable.
So today, on my grandparents' wedding anniversary, I celebrate love and through watching their marriage, I am filled with hope that marriage is still relevant and worth the effort to have one filled with love, respect, protection, and provision; all the things I witnessed in my grandparents' marriage. On day 21 of the 31 Days of Joy series, join me in celebrating love in its most pure and beautiful form.
Filled With Joy and Love,
Dr. Daphne
